Couples Counseling

Becoming Better Together

Each person comes to the partnership with a set of unique unconscious expectations and often these are met, at least initially. Yet, we are all constantly changing and growing, and we do not always change in the same way or at the same time.

We fall into patterns established early in our life and then over the course of our relationship.  In many ways, these behavioral patterns help to strengthen a relationship, but they can also present potential challenges where a couple will become stuck.  Think of that "thing" that has come up again and again.

If left unaddressed, these patterns can lead to communication difficulties, a lack of connection, and mistrust.  Illness, parenting strategies, and major life transitions can also impact a couples connections and behaviors.

Through a process oriented approach, learn to identify your unconscious rules, values discrepancies, and automatic responses that lead to many of these issues so that you are aware of them and can find better ways to connect, align, and work through them.

Couples Counseling Process

Please read carefully:

Given the increase in volume for couples seeking assistance and working to accommodate this situation as quick as possible, AQAL Therapies has brought on an intern counselor and adopted the following procedures:

Option 1: Fee for Service

For those needing to get in sooner rather than later AND for those not intending to use insurance (most insurance companies DO NOT COVER couples counseling), please use the following steps:

  1. Click link below and select a time and clinician to meet with.  The intern counselor will have more availability and will be able to start the process sooner.  The intern counselor is not licensed, operating under and monitored by a licensed counselor, but has the skills and experience to oversee this step of the process.

  2. Each individual in the relationship needs to set up their own individual intake session.  This session is $45, is 30 minutes in duration, and can be done in person or via telehealth.

  3. Fill out and complete paperwork that will be sent to you via the e-mail provided.  This must be completed before the first session takes place in order to guarantee the appointment.

  4. To meet in person, proof of vaccination must be uploaded to patient portal.

  5. After both individuals have completed this initial intake session, the couple can then schedule a session together, either continuing with the intern for $60/hour session, or $135 with a licensed counselor.

Again, an intern counselor is one who has completed the required coursework, is required to provide services to meet their hourly requirement to sit for licensing, and has been brought on to help decrease waitlist time.

Option 2: Using Insurance

Most insurance plans do not cover couples counseling/marriage counseling.  However, being able to pay out of pocket is not always an option when help is needed and one of the main goals of AQAL Therapies has an option for using insurance to ensure that people have access to mental health services in a time of need.  The following steps help to ensure that insurance can be ethically provided while using insurance to help cover the services:

  1. Click link below and select a time and clinician to meet with.  If you intend to use insurance, please select the LMHC option to set up a time.

  2. Each individual in the relationship needs to set up their own individual intake session.  This session is in person or via telehealth with an LMHC,  can be covered by insurance, and is 30 to 60 minutes in duration.

  3. To get in sooner, you can select the intern counselor ($45 for initial session out of pocket).  The intern counselor is not licensed, operating under and monitored by a licensed counselor, but has the skills and experience to oversee this step of the process. Afterwards, you can schedule with the LMHC and use your insurance.

  4. Fill out and complete paperwork that will be sent to you via the e-mail provided.  This must be completed before the first session takes place in order to guarantee the appointment.

Please feel free to contact AQAL Therapies here should you have any questions about this.
